The Maiden Chamber
The Maiden Chamber
The name is a classic designation for a girls’ room in castles and manor houses dating back to medieval times. Today, the room appears newly furnished by Princess Alexandra and features a mix of the princess’s and Count Michael’s furniture. The room is directly connected to the Captain’s Room to the north and thus serves as an ideal double guest room for the castle’s estate.
The historian
recounts
As noted in the text about the Captain’s Room, these two rooms originally formed an open space and were known as the Carpenter's Hall. Here, a double door led into the large Banqueting Hall. Later, the room was divided, and in the 1870s a spiral staircase was constructed that connected the current Yellow Room to this upper staircase chamber. At that time, it was Baron Frantz Bille‑Brahe’s salon on the ground floor that was connected to his daughter Jessie’s adjoining chamber on the first floor. The spiral staircase was not dismantled until deep into the 20th century.
