Maiden Rigborg Room
Maiden Rigborg Room
This room is named after Rigborg Brockenhuus, who became known in popular lore as the young Jomfru (Maiden) Rigborg. It is said that she served her sentence of confinement—from 1599 to 1604—in this room. The punishment was imposed due to her intimate and fruitful relationship with the nobleman Frederik Rosenkrantz, which was outside of wedlock. You can read about the tragic fates that made a deep impression on H.C. Andersen by clicking the link on the next page. Today, the somber mood has been replaced by an enchanting atmosphere in the room, created by Titania’s Palace from 1922. On loan from the LEGO Foundation, the palace consists of more than 3,000 unique pieces and has toured the world for decades to raise money for children in need. You can see the old donation box by the window—should the “elf queen” Titania persuade you to donate to a good cause. More about Titania’s Palace and its adventures is available by clicking the link on the next page.
