    Passion

    for Gardens and Colors

Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg resides at Egeskov Castle, where her passion and dedication to the gardens have played a pivotal role in their evolution. To date, Princess Alexandra has contributed designs and planting plans for five distinct garden rooms, showcasing her commitment to preserving and enhancing the unique character of Egeskov’s gardens.

In close collaboration with head gardener Peter Bonde Poulsen, the Princess has reimagined garden spaces with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the gardening team can bring her vision to life. Her focus lies on the gardens’ conceptual ideas and structural designs.

The gardens shaped by her hand include the Sun Garden, White Garden, Brasserie Garden, Water Garden, and Rhododendron Garden, which are described in the garden guide available to visitors.

In the Sun Garden, for example, she has carefully chosen colors to reflect the rhythm of the day. Plant shades transition from the deep tones of night to the lighter yellows of morning and culminate in the rich reds of evening.

Her expertise in garden design and planting plans is rooted in her studies in architecture, garden design, and art history. Her love for gardens and colors is inspired by her grandmother, Queen Ingrid, a significant influence on her creative journey.
