The Labyrinth
7 The Labyrinth
The old labyrinth was established in the 1730s by Niels Krag “the Younger”, who expanded the Baroque garden at Egeskov. This unique labyrinth measures 27 x 44 metres and consists of clipped beech hedges. From the stair landing, you can get an overview of the narrow paths. It is easy to imagine the joy and amusement this fairytale-like structure has provided over the centuries. Unfortunately, the old labyrinth is closed to visitors due to the increasingly fragile root system. Only the gardeners have access when they carefully trim the old beech hedges by hand.
