Renaissance Garden
6 Renaissance Garden
The Renaissance Garden has a classical layout centred around a main axis with a fountain and clipped boxwood hedges, coloured gravel between the hedges, and a central motif featuring the French lily. Along the axis, you can see spectacularly clipped figures: a squirrel, a peacock, spirals and sharp pyramids. The particularly observant visitor will notice the small beetle at the foot of the French lily – an artistic reference to the castle owners’ history and family name, Bille. The garden was established in 1962 and executed by the French garden architect Ferdinand Duprat under the direction of Countess Nonni. At the time, modernisation was necessary, as the parterre garden in the original Baroque layout had been neglected for many years.
